WinOLS

General
Question:
What kind of PC do I need for WinOLS?
Answer:
1. Requirements:
WinOLS5 requires Windows 11 with at least 16 GB RAM. You also need 300 MB of disk space + sufficient storage space for your projects. Most current PCs are therefore ideally suited for the use of WinOLS5.
If you want to use EVC hardware (BSL, UCM100, ...), an ARM processor must not be used.
2. Recommendations:
Storage space: If you have a lot of projects, it is advisable to save them on a fast drive (e.g. SSD with M.2 connection). External USB drives, on the other hand, are less recommended because they are often quite slow. Web drives often do not cope well with a large number of files; we have had the (relatively) best experiences with OneDrive.
Processor: The manufacturer is less relevant, but good single-thread performance logically also has an effect on WinOLS. Many CPU cores are only useful in individual places, because most of the time programs have to be specially optimized for this (which we do wherever it is necessary and possible).
3. Bottle necks:
In general, WinOLS is very performant and works on most current PCs without any problems. However, if there is a problem, there is usually a specific reason for it.
Q1006 lists typical causes and solutions. The WinOLS function F12 > Debug > Benchmark also helps to identify slow drives.
