Question:
What does '*ELEVATED*' or 'Elevated rights' mean?
Answer:
WinOLS was started with elevated rights / as administrator. This may sound helpful, but can actually cause problems. Such programs are sealed off from other programs by Windows, so Drag&Drop can't work any more. Because WinOLS is now run effectively under a different user account, assigned network drives may be unreachable and created files may not be writable when the 'normal' user account is used, later on.
To solve this:
- Start WinOLS normally. Not with 'Run as Administrator'.
- Check the properties of the file 'C:\Program Files (x86)\EVC\WinOLS\ols.exe' and deactivate all 'compatibility settings'.
- In rare cases, there are hidden compatibility settings (SHIMs) which can't be edited normally. In this case, delete the folder 'C:\Program Files (x86)\EVC\WinOLS\' with the key combination Shift+Del and install WinOLS again.
